Ethical theories

Hello guys! This term we are studying ethical theories. This is the most difficult unit this year, but I think that you will deal with it. On Thursday we are going to learn a bit more about “Virtue Ethics“. This theory was thought for the first time by Aristotle, the Greek philosopher (5th century BC). Let’s do some activities in order to learn more about it:
1. Work in pairs. Read the following website and answer the questions in your notebook.
a) What was the name of the school where Aristotle studied philosophy?
b) Aristotle was the tutor of a prince. Who was that person?
c) For Aristotle, it’s not the same to be a good man than to be… what? Try to explain his point of view using your own words.
2. Work in pairs. Look at the following website and search for the definition of “virtue”. Copy it in your notebook.
3. Work in pairs. Look at the following website and do the activity about virtues.
4. Work in pairs. Choose one of the virtues from the previous activity and look for a quote about it. Copy the quote in your notebook and say yor opinion. (Remember to write the name of the person who said the quote).
5. Work in pairs. Look at this website and do the review activity. Enjoy!
6. (Optional). Send a comment to this article answering these questions: What have you learnt with these activities? Do you like them? Why? Make a suggestion in order to create more activities.

We enjoy this activity because it is different to the regular classes. We also make them with the computer. We think that this unit is more interesting and usefull than the others. We like it
I think that these activities were excellent because now, we have more clear the meaning of the different virtues. We have learnt too the point of view of philosophers and that is so interesting.
We’ve learnt about what is virtue and altruism (the virtue we chose in exercise 4). We had fun making this exercises and we think this is a nice way of learning about Ethics and that you should keep doing things like this because they are nice.
With this activities we learnt about Aristotle’s life and human virtues

In these activities, we have learnt a lot about Aristotle and his principles, and we are starting to know a little bit more about what we think of our lifes and behaviour facing life. The best part of these activities, was looking for the quotes about courage, because we’ve found some interesting ones that we agree with for example: “Courage doesen´t always roar. Sometimes courage is the little voice at the end of the day that says… I’ll try again tomorrow” because that point of view is optimistic, and make ourselves to have a “self-superation” feeling. And it also means that courage is not always doing a big thing, sometimes, is just for example, saying something.
In conclusion, we love these activities, and it’s a good method to make us learn about ethics.
Wow!! Very well written. I like the quote that you mention; it’s interesting. Having courage is really important for daily life, specially if you have big personal problems. I’m proud of you, keep on doing like this.
